After 16 years working in the fashion industry, I recently left to pursue my passion for food, entertaining, and providing others with the tools to do the same.
For years, I have enjoyed cooking, bringing people together over food, and actively expanding my palate. Many people have told me “Tracee, you need to do something with your gift.” or "I make cooking. more accessible to them". Well, now is the time for me to finally pursue my passion with The Lost Artichoke! Some exciting things that will be in store with the Lost Artichoke include: Weekly new recipes, beautiful party ideas, travel to table info, and more!
I discovered my love for food at a young age and have been cooking and experimenting in the kitchen since I can remember. I recall making fresh Gnocchi with my Italian Nonna and eating homemade Blackberry jam from my Grandmothers farm in South Carolina.
As a child, my mother consistently brought home “organic” fruits, vegetables, and meats from local farmers before it was cool. We had our own garden and limited our processed food and sugar intake. I had no idea how this would sculpt my future eating habits into making healthier choices. Later on in life, through my passion for travel I also began discovering the food and ingredients of diverse cultures which drove my curiosity in the kitchen.
When I was 18, I traveled to Italy for the first time with my family to visit my father’s family outside of Milan. That is when I had my first taste of rabbit, homemade salami, and organic wine. It was a culinary awakening!
I continued my food journey to College in Oxford, Mississippi(OleMiss) where I learned about great BBQ and fried catfish! While in college, I studied abroad in Spain and one of my favorite things to do was try new foods at local tapas restaurants. This journey inspired me to recreate dishes driven from my travels and make them my own. In 2003 I graduated with a BA degree in Fashion Merchandising and Business and quickly started my career in Fashion.
After college, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia for two years and then to Charleston, South Carolina. I fell in love with both cities and their southern cuisine. Some of my favorites dishes include Southern Fried Chicken, Okra, and Low -Country Shrimp and Grits! This is when I began experimenting more with hosting weekly dinners and get togethers for my friends and family.
One of the most defining moments of my life was when I packed up everything and moved to Europe at 28 years old. I started my European adventure in Milan, Italy for 3 years. While there, I truly learned about authentic Italian food and the importance of fresh non-processed ingredients. One of the most amazing things about Europe is the convenience and ability to easily travel from country to country.
When I moved to London, I learned that there was more to British Cuisine than just Fish n Chips. I began experimenting with Indian and African dishes and at this time I launched my first cooking blog called Recipes around the world with Tracee. Soon after, my work brought me to Venice Beach, California which is where I have been for the past 5 years!
The food of the many countries I have lived and visited has influenced my cooking by giving me a greater understanding of new spices and flavors. The cuisines of Italy, Spain, London, France, Amsterdam, Croatia Thailand, Greece and California are among some of my favorites. I am happy to now be able to bring the tastes from my travels to your table.
Through sharing my cooking, I hope to help others step out of their comfort zones utilizing healthy and fresh ingredients to create rustic beautiful foods! Join me in this passion by subscribing to my page to learn more about me and the foods I explore!
